January 19: Do Not Worry About Tomorrow

There is an old adage: “You cannot start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.” Sometimes we tend to get stuck. Maybe our last chapter was wonderful – but maybe it was painful and even heartbreaking. Either way, by the grace of God, life continues.

On occasion, it is wise to re-visit the past in order to learn and grow from choices we have made. But if our past is keeping us from enjoying the blessings of the present moment or keeping us from looking toward the future with hope, we might want to pray for the grace to let it go!

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.” Matthew 6, 33-34

Let us pray. “Heavenly Father, you know all of our needs and will provide for them. Your Son Jesus exhorts us to avoid anxiety about worldly things. Help us trust that today has enough problems of its own and we need not to worry about tomorrow’s. With your Spirit’s loving guidance, we will indeed cross each of life’s bridges when we come to it. Bless us and keep us under your constant care, through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
