April 29: St. Catherine / Santa Catalina

The Church celebrates today the feastday of St. Catherine of Siena. She was a third-order Dominican, peacemaker, and counselor to Popes. She stood out as a beacon of hope in an otherwise dark time in the Church’s history. She singlehandedly ended what was called “the Avignon exile” of the successors of St. Peter in the 14th century. She still stands out as a woman of faith who sought true holiness throughout her life – especially in a spirit of “surrender” to God.
