February 3: “The Lord Is My Helper”

When I consider your heavens… Psalm 8

The New Testament’s Letter to the Hebrews (13, 1-8) spells out several admonitions designed to let us live a life free of fear and secure in the Lord’s love. Among God’s promises to us, we have: ”I will never forsake you or abandon you.” And our proper response? “The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”

How often do we need to be reassured of the Lord’s never failing love? Are we really secure in His love, no matter what? Do we know there is no room for fear, no matter what?

Psalm 17 is a perfect expression of the reassurance we need: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear? Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war be waged upon me, even then will I trust.”

“Never let your head hang down. Never give up and sit down. Find another way. And don’t pray when it rains – if you don’t pray when the sun shines.” Satchel Paige
