“Cuanto más cercanos estamos al Señor, con frecuencia estamos más cercanos a su Cruz.” San Anselmo
La gente que quiere llevar a cabo su misión en la vida frecuentemente tiene que pagar un alto precio por ello. Jesús continuó su misión de amor haciendo la voluntad del Padre para salvarnos, y por ello fue clavado en la Cruz. Según Lucas 2, 25-35, el anciano Simeón había dicho a María, en el templo de Jerusalén, que un día sufriría por y con su Hijo. Cuando un hijo sufre, también la madre sufre, ¿verdad? Sin embargo, la Virgen María también fue fiel a su misión de dar a Jesús al mundo.
La Iglesia celebra hoy la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora, la Virgen de los Dolores. Es decir, después de contemplar y meditar ayer la exaltación de la Santa Cruz, hoy la liturgia de la Iglesia nos presenta a la Madre Dolorosa. Gracias a Dios, tenemos el cariño, la protección, y la intercesión eterna de ella. Gracias a Dios, podemos recibir en nuestro corazón a la Madre de Dios, pedirle que se quede con nosotros, que nos consuele con su cercanía, que nos alumbre con su intercesión, y que su ejemplo de paciencia y esperanza sea luz en nuestro camino.
Oremos. “Padre, sabemos que las penas y sufrimientos son inevitables en esta vida para los que siguen a tu Hijo. Danos suficiente confianza en ti para mantenernos fieles y para creer y esperar en tu amor incluso en el sufrimiento. Danos el valor de enfrentar y asumir las dificultades de la vida unidos a María, nuestra Madre Dolorosa, en servicio de Jesucristo, nuestro Señor. Amén.”

St. Anselm sets the tone for today’s Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows: “While other martyrs suffered by sacrificing their own lives, the Blessed Virgin suffered by sacrificing her Son’s life, a life that she loved more than her own; so that she not only suffered in her soul all that her Son endured in His body, but moreover the sight of her Son’s torments brought more grief to her heart than if she had endured them all in her own person.”
When Jesus, from the Cross, gave the beloved disciple to Mary and Mary to him (John 19, 25-29), we were included in this two-fold gift. And what an incredible gift it is: that we have been given Mary as our Mother! We are invited today to appreciate her role in the Church: she symbolizes the whole Church and the beloved disciple represents all believers in that Church. As Mary mothered Jesus, she is now mother to all of His followers.
More from St. Anselm: “God, then, is the Father of the created world and Mary the mother of the re-created world. God is the Father by whom all things were given life, and Mary the mother through whom all things were given new life. For God begot the Son, through whom all things were made, and Mary gave birth to Him as the Savior of the world. Without God’s Son, nothing could exist; without Mary’s Son, nothing could be redeemed.” Amen!
