September 7: Adoration Day

In his Letter to the Colossians, St. Paul offers this prayer to the people of Colossae: “We have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from His glorious power, so that you may have all endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

For all of us who pray for others and want nothing but the best for them, St. Paul’s words can serve as a fitting template or model. That we and others might be in the “Kingdom” means that we will be closely united to God – in being the kind of people He wants to us to be. What more could we ask for than a full knowledge of God’s Way and to be filled with wisdom and spiritual insight? This is the kind of prayer we ought to make in some form every day of our lives.
