Jesus said to His Apostles, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16, 12-13)
Isn’t it true that there is only so much we can learn at one time? Yes, and the great life-truths take a long time to absorb. This is certainly true about all matters of faith. We enter into them gradually, over time, with the unfolding experience of life. In John 16, Jesus announces that He has many things to say to the Apostles, but that they are not ready for them yet.
Jesus also said to them that “The Paraclete, the Spirit of Truth, who will be sent in the future, will reveal these things and will lead the faithful towards the complete truth.” The Holy Spirit will lead us to the complete truth, about Jesus, God, our world, and ourselves. This is a life-long journey and we will never attain the complete truth in this life – we are always on the way. We can never truly say, “We know it all.” Rather, we must always leave ourselves open to being led by the Spirit ever more closely towards the complete truth, towards the one who said of Himself, “I am the truth.”

Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Aún tengo muchas cosas que decirles, pero todavía no las pueden comprender. Pero cuando venga el Espíritu de la verdad, Él los irá guiando hasta la verdad plena.” (Juan 16, 12-13)
Los Apóstoles no deberían estar tristes porque Cristo los deja. Su fe se hará más profunda y espiritual cuando Jesús no esté ya físicamente presente entre ellos. El Espíritu Santo de la verdad continuará con ellos la misión de Jesús. El Espíritu de la verdad no les dará nuevo mensaje, pero guiará a los Apóstoles y a la Iglesia a profundizar su comprensión de la vida y del mensaje de Jesús y a confrontarlos constantemente con los acontecimientos y problemas de los tiempos y así llevar adelante a la Iglesia.
Que el Espíritu de verdad venga a nosotros y nos guíe hacia la verdad plena sobre nosotros, en nuestras relaciones mutuas, y con respecto a lo que sucede en nuestro mundo. Que Dios envíe este Espíritu a nuestro mundo y nos bendiga.
