July 18: To Gaze in Wonder

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.” Ezekiel 36, 26

Have you recently stepped outside in the evening to gaze with wonder at the stars? How often do we just take their presence and their light for granted?

It has been said that if the stars came out only one night each year the whole human race would have calendars marked and we would be at the ready to gaze upward in wonder. And yet, familiarity breeds contempt … or, in this case, blindness.

Our loving and gracious God, who is full of surprises, sends unexpected gifts, or leaves them hidden in unexpected places; He is constantly gracing our lives with His incredible love. What will it take for us to open our eyes?

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people.” Ephesians 1, 18
