It has not always been spoken aloud, but Lent is aimed at what we call “a concern for growth.” All of the fasting, prayer, and almsgiving which the Church encourages is not about “a spiritual endurance test,” but that we are maturing, growing, and making the Way of the Lord our own way. We dare not let this year be just another Lent, but a time for the Divine Word to be fully alive in us, “achieving the end for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55, 10-11)
Lent has a wonderful way of reminding us, as we engage in its disciplines, that God has His plans for the world and for each of us and they will not be frustrated. Those plans are not arbitrary. They are for the well-being of all creation and each of our hearts. God is the loving Father to whom we pray with confidence.
Let us pray. “Lord our God, help us to see the inevitability of your Word being realized in our lives. Help us to see how your Word really is like the gentle rain that makes the earth fertile and fruitful, and so produces the seed that provides the bread on which we live. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Dios proclama su palabra al pueblo de muchas maneras. Primeramente, con su “palabra-en-acción,” es decir, sus intervenciones y obras salvadoras. En segundo lugar, sus palabras escritas en la Biblia. Y sobre todo, Dios nos habla y proclama su Palabra-Viva, Jesucristo.
La palabra de Dios puede oírse realmente y encontrar resonancia eficaz solamente cuando toma carne y sangre (cuando se “en-carna”) en la vida de la persona y vibra con pensamiento y sentimiento humanos. Si es así, uno puede responder a ella con palabras orantes de reconocimiento y gratitud, y con la oración-hecha-vida de las buenas obras. La oración es nuestro eco a la palabra de Dios, y lo mismo son nuestras buenas obras. A la palabra de Dios respondemos, en oración y en acción, con nuestra palabra a Dios.
Oremos. “Señor Dios, tú nos proclamas tu poderosa palabra para nuestro bien, pero no podemos decir que de verdad y siempre la oímos, Sigue hablándonos con tu palabra, y abre nuestros corazones a ella, para que produzca fruto en nosotros cuando hacemos tu voluntad y llevamos a cabo aquello para lo que hemos sido enviados. Te lo pedimos por medio de la Palabra Viviente, tu Hijo Jesucristo, nuestro Señor. Amén.”
