August 19: Weighed Down or Lifted Up?

Have you ever felt like a “ton of bricks” has landed on your shoulders?

A pile of bricks, perhaps a ton or so, could be used to build a wall, a fort, or even a tomb, wherein a person could attempt to isolate him or herself in fear or anxiety.

The same “ton of bricks” could be used to build a bridge, a ramp, or a passageway into a future of renewed hope and freedom. It could lift us up, provide us a pathway, and lead us to whatever new possibilities God has in store for us.

Let us pray. “O God, we need to know that you care and that you love us. Be our refuge when we are weighed down, replacing our distress with calm assurance, and be our strength when we feel weak and find it hard to carry on. Help us approach the future without fear and to trust that you are in control. At the times we don’t know what to do or say, help us to “Be still, and know that you are God.” Be our comforter, our healer, and our peace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
