April 13: Fixing Our Gaze On Jesus

It is an enormous blessing to “walk” with the Lord this Holy Week! He gives us the opportunity to reflect on the immense love which God shows each of us – each and every day, but especially in this most holy time. Do we appreciate how important it is for us to respond to God’s great love? Do we appreciate what a tremendous opportunity we are given to not only receive God’s love, but also to live in it? However, do those around us know anything about the great love we have received? Is there any sign in what we say and do that says how grateful we are?

This week offers us a unique opportunity to fix our gaze on Jesus and admire how steadfast He is when it comes to love. Even when Judas betrays Him, Jesus responds by offering His life in order that all might be saved. Even when interrogated by Pilate, Jesus is not distracted from the mission that the Father has given Him: He stays true to the Father and He loves us to the end.

We say that we are Catholic, but are we true and faithful followers in Jesus’ Way? Our lives are marked by light and dark, by generosity and selfishness, victories and failures … and Jesus reaches out to us through it all, with the intention that He will lose not even one of those entrusted to Him by His heavenly Father.

Let us pray. “Gracious and loving God, allow us the grace to celebrate this week; it is a week that brings us life and unites us in your love. We give thanks and praise to you through Christ the Lord, who lives and reigns with you for ever and ever. Amen.”
