In John 3, 16, Jesús says, “God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.” The famed Biblical scholar St. Jerome commented on this passage saying, “It would have been much easier for God to condemn the world, but He deliberately chose the harder task.” Don’t we find the same to be true in our lives? It is much easier to condemn our world than to save it. It is much easier to say what we disapprove of than to go out and do something useful for another person. It is much easier to criticize than to praise and encourage others. Are we willing to choose “the harder task” or be content with what is easier? Are we willing to make the Way of the Lord our way or follow the way of the world? Are we willing to let this Easter have such an impact on us that we are build the confidence of others, lift them up, and encourage them all along the way – every day?

Lo que celebramos durante de la temporada Pascual (y, de hecho, siempre) es que Dios no envió a Jesús al mundo para condenarlo, sino para salvarlo. Con Jesús, y por medio de Él, somos parte de ese hermoso plan. Pero, ¿pensamos que tenemos necesidad de salvación? Nos hemos vuelto tan autosuficientes y orgullosos de nuestras realizaciones y logros humanos, que con frecuencia pensamos que la salvación pertenece a otro mundo – no al nuestro.
Gracias a Dios, en nuestros momentos de sensatez, nos sentamos a reflexionar, y realizamos que tenemos que afrontar realidades más profundas: ¿de qué logros se trata? ¿para qué sirven? ¿nos han hecho más felices? ¿hemos transformado el mundo en un lugar mejor para vivir? Y entonces nos damos cuenta de que no podemos hacerlo solos. Por eso, Dios nos envió a su Hijo para salvarnos.
