Spanish: Mrs. Angela Paz, Middle School Spanish Elective
“To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love, For it is in giving that we receive. . .”
~ from The Prayer of Saint Francis
My name is Angela Paz--"Señora Paz", and I looking forward to joining you as the Middle School Spanish teacher this year at Holy Cross School. For the past year, I have been working as the Senior Ministry Coordinator at Holy Cross Parish and will continue that as well as help to coordinate Adult Faith Formation. I grew up in Boise, ID, and was very active in the Idaho Basque community. The Basques are a cultural group of people in Northern Spain. (Basque Museum). I still have family living there and was blessed to visit them while I studied abroad in college.
I graduated from the College of Idaho in 2005 with degrees in Spanish and Education, and taught Middle School Spanish in Idaho for a year. Then, I went on to serve with the Vincentian Volunteer Corps in Denver, and then got my Masters degree in Theology from the University of Notre Dame in 2010. I've lived in places all over the country, including Denver, CO, Fort Worth, TX, Washington D.C., and Idaho, but am so glad to be here in Portland. My husband, Anthony, who works at the University of Portland in Campus Ministry, and our two small children, Nico (3 years) and Amaya (1 year), feel so blessed to be part of this great community!
I very much look forward to a fun year in which we'll explore culture, history and geography, all while learning a new language-Español! In Middle School Spanish, in addition to covering basic vocabulary (such as colors, numbers, days, body parts, etc.), we'll also learn about sentence structure (verb conjugation, pronouns, adverbs, etc.) We'll make sure that it is a good blend of conversation as well as written and read Spanish. Additionally, we'll make sure to allow opportunities for differentiation, where native speakers as well as those new to the Spanish language can support one another and grow in their own understanding and use of the language. Plus, we'll have lots of fun doing it--from everything to celebrations with food, to plays, to song and dance! Hope that you consider joining us in this great adventure! ¡Vengan con nosotros!
