Welcome!

Hello, my name is Maria Valdez-Henshaw, and I’m looking forward to working with your children and wonderful staff of the Holy Cross community again this year. I will be providing social-emotional learning support as well as counseling on an individual, group, and classroom basis. I graduated from the University of Portland with a B.A. in Psychology in 1994 and a Masters in Social Work from Portland State University in 2000.

I have been working with children, youth, and families since 1994, have lived in North Portland since 1990, and have been a Holy Cross parishioner since 1995. I have extensive experience providing counseling & psychoeducation within school and outpatient community health programs for kids struggling with ADHD/ADD, anxiety, depression, trauma, sensory issues, and adjustment to divorce in their families. I obtained my licensure as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in 2011.

I have been married since 1995 and have 2 sons, one who will be a Senior at Central Catholic H.S. and the other will be a 6th grader at Astor K-8. I was born and grew up in Boise, I.D., attended St. Mark’s School and Bishop Kelly H.S.. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, music, art, watching my sons play sports, and going to the beach. Please feel free to reach out to me if I can be of any assistance. My email is mvaldez@holycrossk8.org
