Holy Cross Pre-K and Kindergarten

Portland, Oregon

A child's early years are the foundation for everything they will experience and learn. Our Pre-k and Kindergarten programs create a safe warm environment where children can explore their surroundings while developing friendships and the building blocks for more advanced learning.

Our Pre-K programs are offered in full five day a week and 3 day a week programs.

We are now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year.

Pre-K students are ready to recognize  letters, letter sounds, and numbers. Through small groups activities and class projects we build up our number and letter bank to be ready for reading in Kindergarten! We also focus on one-to-one counting, fine motor, book handling, and word sound skills.

Kindergarten is the first step into formal schooling, so it is important that kindergarteners get used to the school setting. This includes attending school on a regular basis, following the teacher’s directions, and working on assignments independently.

In kindergarten, children learn how to read and write letters and words, as well as learn basic math skills such as counting and knowing the names and order of numbers. This enables children to begin learning the core knowledge needed for success in school and in life.

Another very important aspect of Pre-K and Kindergarten is that children begin learning social skills they will use later in life. For example children learn how to manage their behavior, follow routines and expectations, interact with peers, solve problems independently and with others, and get along with others.

Our Pre-K and Kindergarten programs include PE, Tech, and Music classes each week.  We include two recesses daily for kids to play and be social, and we attend Mass weekly as part of our faith formation.

I have lived in St. Johns most of my life.  It is an amazing place to live!  My husband and I have raised three amazing children here and are very active in our community.  I am so excited to be teaching here in St. Johns once again.

Faith Formation at Holy Cross

At Holy Cross, we are proud of our Catholic identity.  We have weekly Mass as a school, and pray in our classrooms. We have religion class every day as part of our curriculum.

Parents ask whether they need to be Catholic to attend Holy Cross, and the answer is no.  We welcome families of all faiths and beliefs.  Parents that are not Catholic or religious have commented on how they appreciate that their children are learning to be kind and caring to others and are excited about the various service projects we do to help our community, even at this young age.

How Do Families Afford Catholic Education?

Holy Cross is a life-changing, unforgettable experience for your child. They will form friendships that last forever and excel academically, spiritually, and in extracurricular activities.  They graduate with a lasting foundation that prepares them to excel throughout their grade school years and on to high school college, and beyond.

Holy Cross helps families afford the gift of education through assistance with applying for financial aid, scholarships and other tuition assistance.

It is very important to us to help all families that want a Holy Cross education for their child.  We never want finances or other barriers to stand in the way. Please reach out - we have been working tirelessly to make sure every family has support available where needed.
