The Power of Prayer

Pray Always and Pray All Ways

Times like these remind us of Padre Pio’s famous quote: “Pray, hope, and don’t worry.”

For example, many saints throughout the ages have recited the Rosary, especially in times of distress and trials. There is no time in recent history that the power which comes from praying the Rosary is needed more than now. Believe it or not, the good folks at Catholic365 have put together a “Quarantine Rosary!” The Mysteries are left up to you, but each bead has a special petition. Take a look:

Speaking of prayer, Pope Francis has approved a “Mass in Time of Pandemic.”

The opening prayer for that special Mass is:

Almighty and eternal God,

our refuge in every danger,

to whom we turn in our distress;

in faith we pray that you will look with compassion on the afflicted,

grant eternal rest to the dead,

comfort to mourners,

healing to the sick,

peace to the dying,

strength to healthcare workers,

wisdom to our leaders,

and the courage to reach out to all in love,

so that together we may give glory to your holy name.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Spanish version of the same prayer is:

Dios todopoderoso y eterno,

refugio en toda clase de peligro,

a quien nos dirigimos en nuestra angustia;

te pedimos con fe que mires compasivamente nuestra aflicción,

concede descanso eterno a los que han muerto,

consuela a los que lloran, sana a los enfermos,

da paz a los moribundos, fuerza a los trabajadores sanitarios,

sabiduría a nuestros gobernantes,

y valentía para llegar a todos con amor

glorificando juntos tu santo nombre.

Por nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Amen.
