Happy parish-patronal Feastday! The official title of today’s liturgical Feast is the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It is also know as the Feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross. The Scriptures tell us that Jesus was lifted up “so that everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life.” And this life comes because Jesus gave His life on the Cross is a sign of His Father’s love for each and every one of us.
Jesus told His disciples at the Last Supper, “the greatest love a person can show is to give his life for his friends.” And in the Gospel reading for today’s Mass He also says, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” (John 3, 13-17)
The word “Exaltation” in the name of today’s Feast means a “lifting up.” In the Gospel of St. John Jesus also says that He, being “lifted up” will draw all people to Himself. This “lifting up” refers not only to Jesus being physically raised on the Cross – it includes the whole of the Paschal Mystery. That is, Jesus dies while on the Cross, passes to new life (the Resurrection), returns to the Father (the Ascension), and breathes forth the Spirit (at Pentecost). The Church teaches that there is a single, continuous movement through these events that make up the Paschal Mystery. Jesus is totally “exalted” (lifted up) on the Cross in that the Cross opens the door for all of God’s love to pour through and bring us salvation.
Let us pray. “Lord, we rejoice today because by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free. You are the Savior of the world.”

Celebramos hoy la Fiesta de la Exaltación de la Santa Cruz, fiesta de acción de gracias: la glorificación de la Cruz de Cristo como signo de nuestra redención. También es nuestra Fiesta Patronal.
El inmenso amor de nuestro Padre, que supera totalmente nuestra inteligencia, se nos manifiesta plenamente en el envío de su Hijo, para que muriendo en la Cruz, nos obtenga el perdón de los pecados. Cristo, por su Exaltación, es decir su crucifixión y su Resurrección triunfante, nos ha regenerado, este es el plan realizado del amor de Dios hacia la familia humana. Pero esta salvación tiene que ser aceptada, lo que supone para el cristiano vivir de conformidad con las enseñanzas de Jesús, el Crucificado y Resucitado.
Oremos. “Señor y Dios nuestro, te pedimos que por la proclamación de tu Iglesia y del Papa Francisco, podamos descubrir, aceptar, y vivir tu amor incondicional, que entregó a tu Hijo, para que compartiendo nuestra condición humana, pudiéramos alcanzar la vida eterna. Te pedimos por la paz entre los hombres, para que se terminen los derramamientos de sangre entre los pueblos y todos podamos alcanzar una auténtica y definitiva paz. Te pedimos para que la Cruz de tu Hijo sea la que verdaderamente presida toda la vida de nuestras familias, de nuestra sociedad, y de nuestras patrias. Te pedimos para que cada hermano sufriente encuentre en nuestro amor y nuestra generosa ayuda, una razón para seguir esperando. Te pedimos también por nuestra comunidad, para que meditando la realidad de nuestra propia Cruz, seamos capaces de asumirla y comprenderla, y así, aceptándola, continuaremos el camino de felicidad que nos llevará a la vida eterna. Padre, tú sabes que realmente queremos seguir a tu Hijo, pero nuestras fuerzas y nuestra fe a menudo fallan. Por eso, te suplicamos que nos des tu Espíritu, para que nos fortalezca y haga realidad nuestro deseo. Te lo pedimos por Jesucristo, nuestro Señor. Amén.”
