July 27: Praying for the Sick

During his recent hospitalization, Pope Francis exchanged affectionate messages with the young patients in the nearby pediatric oncology and children’s neurosurgery wards, according to the Vatican. The Holy Father, who is still recovering from surgery, also received handwritten get well cards from children staying in other hospitals in Rome. One such card read: “Dear Pope Francis, feel my prayer like I felt yours when I was sick.” Another card had a colored pencil drawing of the pope and inside the message said: “Dear Pope Francis, we know that you are not very well and that you are now in the same hospital as us. Even if we cannot see each other, we send you a strong hug and we wish you to get well soon.” We wish the very same for all who are weighed down by illness today.

Let us pray. “God our loving Father, you are our help at all times. We beg that you hear us as we ask your loving assistance for all who are sick, including Pope Francis; please restore their health, give them your peace, and reunite them to your Church so that, together again, we may offer you thankful praise. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
