January 25: The Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul

Each one of us who has been Baptized is encouraged today to remember this: that, although the Ritual of Baptism is never repeated, the “process” of becoming a Christian is not just a once for all event. Conversion itself means “a deeper following of Christ each day.” Conversion is something that can and should continue through the entirety of our lives. The Lord is always calling us to something greater, isn’t He?

On today’s Feast, it is also important to realize that, like St. Paul, each one of us is called not just to take care of our own spiritual wellbeing, but to care for others in the most generous way we can find. How did Jesus put it? “Love God with your whole mind, heart, and soul – and love your neighbors as yourself.” Thus, following Christ is also something that calls us to share His message and His kindness with the people around us, “to proclaim the Gospel to every creature.”

Again, conversion is not something that only happens once in a lifetime. It is something that can happen to us several times in the course of our life. Let us be ready to answer whenever the Lord calls us to something greater.

Let us pray. “O God, who by the life and preaching of St. Paul has caused the light of the Gospel to shine throughout the world, grant that we may follow his example and his holy teaching. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
