The spontaneity of children can teach grown-ups the spirit of the Kingdom of God. Children can flourish in the warm embrace of the family; but they can also run through the neighborhood and wave at total strangers! They teach us the meaning of Jesus’ words as He embraced people from all walks of life and all parts of the land: “These are my mother and my brothers. Whoever does God’s will is brother and sister and mother to me.” (Mark 3, 31-35) Ultimately, being Catholic means having a heart that is innocent and open to all the possibilities that God puts in front of us.

San Marcos (3, 31-35) nos recuerda cómo Jesús identificó a su verdadera familia: la escucha atenta de la palabra y el cumplimiento de la voluntad de Dios son los rasgos característicos de la madre y los hermanos de Jesús. Según el Evangelio, Jesús aprovecha la visita de su familia para enseñar algo fundamental: no podemos ser egoístas atándonos a nuestra familia biológica. La verdadera familia de Jesús, la familia del Reino, traspasa las fronteras biológicas y de raza, y la integran todos los hombres y mujeres que cumplen la voluntad de Dios. Ser católico significa tener un corazón abierto y universal … listo para responder con gratitud a todo lo que Dios nos ofrece.
