As has been true in every age, there are people today who want some special “signs” from God in order to believe. This Lenten season has been reminding us that we have the Good News of the New Testament and the living presence of Jesus among us. We do not need any more. We have all the guidance we need to lead the kind of life which will ensure that we spend our future existence in the company of God, surrounded by His angels and saints.
The life we are called to live, in full imitation of the life of Christ, is measured not by wealth, status or power, but in a life of caring and sharing relationships. In a world of extreme individualism, like ours today, this Lent is offering us an important message: those who are truly rich are those who enrich the lives of others.

La Cuaresma nos enseña que los que ponen su fe en sí mismos y en los medios o recursos materiales que poseen no están abiertos a Dios o al reino de Dios. Se erigen a sí mismos como sus propios dioses y adoran lo que han hecho con su trabajo, con sus negocios, y con sus propias fuerzas. “Adoran el becerro de oro.” Fallan al no ver o ser sensibles ante las necesidades de los otros, especialmente de los pobres.
Lo que todos grandemente necesitamos son ojos para ver las necesidades de nuestros hermanos y hermanas, oídos para escuchar su estruendoso clamor que reclama justicia y misericordia, y una participación equitativa de los bienes de la tierra, tanto materiales como espirituales. Que el Dios de bondad sea bueno, nos dé un corazón grande y compasivo, y lleve a cabo todo ese bello sueño Cuaresmal en nosotros.
