December 1: Be Still and Wait

Tantum ergo Sacramentum...

Seeking peace and quiet during the hustle and bustle of Advent? Eucharistic Adoration may be just what you are looking for! In the same way that Advent is “a waiting for the Lord’s return,” Adoration allows us to sit and wait with God, it is an ideal way to prepare for Christ’s coming.

Although Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is available throughout the year, Adoration in this holy season of waiting has its own unique character. The Catechism of the Catholic Church notes that the act of adoring God helps us focus on what is important: “To adore God is to praise and exalt Him and to humble oneself, as Mary did in the Magnificat, confessing with gratitude that He has done great things and holy is His name.” The worship of God sets us free from turning in on ourselves, free from the slavery of sin and selfishness.

So, we can rush right through Advent without even realizing four weeks have gone by, because we are so busy, or we can answer the call to not be so busy, to set some time aside, and to be still and wait – and Adoration both offers and requires all of that. Join us on Thursdays, any time from the beginning of the morning Mass at 8:30am to the final prayers and Benediction (or “blessing”) at 8:30pm.
