August 6: Prayers Requested

Tragedy in Lebanon: After a massive fire triggered a deadly explosion in Beirut on Tuesday, Pope Francis has called for prayers and a united effort to help Lebanon overcome this serious crisis. “Let us pray for the victims and their family members, and let us pray for Lebanon so that with the effort of everyone in society — political and religious — it may face this tragic and painful moment and, with the help of the international community, overcome the crisis it is experiencing,” the Pope said at Wednesday’s general audience. It is estimated that at least 100 people have died, more than 4,000 others were injured, and more than 100 people are missing.

Let us pray. Holy One, you are our comfort and strength in times of sudden disaster, crisis, or chaos. Surround the people of Lebanon with your grace and peace through their trials and difficulties. By your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen, sustain those who work to rescue or rebuild, and fill our world with the hope of your new creation. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, our rock and redeemer. Amen.
