6th Grade, Mrs. Jan Kirchgraber

I attended the University of Portland, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education.  For the past 38 years I have worked for the Archdiocese of Portland, first at St. Cecilia in Beaverton and then Holy Cross Catholic School.

I am married and have three grown children and four grandchildren.  They keep me young and active and are the joy of my life.

As a sixth grade teacher I have the great pleasure of attending Outdoor School with my class.  This is a wonderful, fun time for all of us.  I love working with middle school age children because it is such a challenging time for them.  It is wonderful to see them grow and mature and it makes me proud of them when they go off to various high schools.

The students are always amazed by what we find and how much litter we collect.  We will be continuing this clean up project throughout the year and all are welcome to join us!

Retired Officer Ron Cash has been teaching the GREAT (gang resistance education and training) program to the sixth graders.  This is a 13 week program with the goal of keeping kids out of gangs. Their graduation is scheduled for May 20.

With daylight savings time, warmer weather and spring sports, we all tend to be busier and stay up later than usual.  It is very hard for students to come to school ready to learn when they haven't had enough sleep.  Monday mornings are particularly hard.  Please  be sure your child is getting enough sleep as you plan activities.  We still have lots to learn!
