The History of Holy Cross Catholic School

Holy Cross Catholic School has educated children in the light of Christ for more than 100 years.  Holy Cross Catholic School takes pride in opening up the benefits of Catholic education to all families, including those who may be financially precluded from the advantages of a rigorous academic and faith-centered education. The school has gifted and dedicated teachers and staff who love their students, who know how to excite curiosity in the minds of their students, and who lead by example to form hearts of compassion.  We are all committed to the mission of Holy Cross:  to educate not just the minds but also the hearts of our students.

History

Holy Cross Catholic School is an ethnically and socially diverse PreK-8 community in the heart of North Portland.  The school celebrated100 years of educating the whole child: spiritually, morally, academically, socially, physically, and culturally.  Holy Cross began its long and successful service in 1912 under the guidance of the Sisters of Saint Mary of Oregon.  In 1986, Holy Cross School became the area school for North Portland, incorporating students from both Assumption and Pope John XXIII Schools.  Holy Cross Catholic School is a visible presence in the North Portland community through outreach programs, community service, music and art performances, sporting events, and inclusive religious celebrations.

Accreditation

Holy Cross Catholic School offers a rigorous and faith-centered education that is accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association and the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools.  These accreditations from independent reviewers are affirmations that your children are receiving a comprehensive education.

Diversity

Holy Cross Catholic School values the diverse community that enriches the fabric of the school.  Our student body is approximately 52% Caucasian, 21% Hispanic, 18% Multi-racial, 6% African American, 1% Asian, and 1% Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.  The school is proud of its Catholic identity while it welcomes families of all faiths.
